| Description: |
The Manager of Telecommunications Support
leads the members of the Telecom Support
Group in the day-to-day assessment, installation,
monitoring and maintenance of the university's
Telecom infrastructure. The employee in
this position has primary responsibility
and accountability for the day-to-day
operation, security, reliability and throughput
of the central campus Telecom infrastructure.
This employee serves as the AASU primary
representative to the South East Telecom
Support Group and as coordinator of telecom
services to the participating South East
VoIP (SEVoIP) institutions. This employee
supervises and evaluates subordinate positions
and student employees within the Telecom
Support Group. The Manager assesses campus
telecom needs, and in concert with other
CIS Management, serves technical and project
management roles in completing these highly
complex CIS telecom projects for CIS staff
and, when appropriate, other members of
the campus. This position regularly requires
working additional night and weekend hours.
The Manager promotes an environment of

| Qualifications: |
BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering,
Telecommunications or similar from an
accredited college or university, or an
accredited BS in a technical field with
substantial relevant IT training and experience.
(Masters degree from an accredited college
or university in a related technical field
or management desired) Must have proven
knowledge of VOIP telecommunications equipment.
(2 years equivalent experience in either
CISCO, Avaya, or Nortel VOIP and equivalent
experience in project management and or
direct supervisory experience desired).
Must possesses a superior customer service-based
work ethic; excellent interpersonal, problem-solving
and communications skills combined with
demonstrated project and team management
capabilities; demonstrated expertise in
Linux OS; and strong experience with at
least one other Unix-based platform. The
successful candidate must be an expert
in configuration of VOIP based voice communications
systems and in configuration of voice
mail platform in a multi-user environment.
Must have experience in a distributed
VOIP based telecommunications environment
and in the maintenance of Ethernet-based
TCP/IP networks including installing and
configuring switches and routers; subnet
management. Must have a general understanding
of copper, wireless and fiber-optic cabling
systems design, installation and testing
practices, and the ability to excel in
a mission-critical environment. Must posses
strong communications skills with the
ability to communicate complex systems
concepts to IT professionals and lay persons
alike.
